Execution

Yes, Tookie Williams should have been executed. It doesn't matter what he did after the murders. What matters is that those victims family members still had to live without their lovedd ones, and he should not have been able to do something the victims didn't get a chance to do.

Yes

I'm Nigerian. With aid of internet, I've been able to study both past and current convicted criminals in the United States of America and in Nigeria. Most criminals still go back to the crime that took them out of circulation initially. That is, they hardly change. That is why in my country, Nigeria, once you have been convicted once,, nobody would want to associate with you again. Therefore, I vote yes, he must be executed

It is so pathetic to hear how so many people contradict themselves by saying that anyone who kills deserves to die. Don't you realize that it's just a huge chain of revenge that never ends because you're saying that the goverment deserves capital punishment as well. Capital punishment IS murder. Who are you to say that someone "deserves" to die? And to those who say they are for capital punishment because they've lost a loved one due to homicide, you are speaking out of anger, and revenge is not the solution.

Absolutly NOT!

No Williams should not have been executed after he turned his life over and gave his soul to God. What happened to the commandment "Thou shall not kill"? There are no exceptions to the government from God. Williams should've just served years in jail to sit & think about what he has done.

The Truth...

Well, I think if he really felt badly for it, he would have turned himself in and said, "I deserve to die for taking the lives of those people." I dont believe in the death penalty because executing him will not bring those victims back. That's just the truth. If you want to make him suffer, keep him in prison for the rest of his life.

Should of done it earlier.

He killed four people, about did 20-plus years time before he was put to death by lethal injenction. 20 years ago should've been the end of him. Yes, he did contribute fairly well to society after four murders, but his second chance was up after his second murder. I believe people do deserve a second chance, but not a third or fourth.

NO

To you who say prostitution is less worse than murder, I say shame on you. I'm not Christian or anything but my thing is what if you were up there and you turned a new leaf would you want to get the death penalty. Look at it this way: if a normal man goes and kills several men but amentally ill person goes and rapes, tortures AND kills A man. But both then turn over a new leaf. Is that really justice if t he man who was mentally ill goes free, but the normal person died cause he had more victims? What if the mentally ill man did it again. My point is we don't have the final say who dies except for someone above even the govt. should. I don't know if there is a god or no,t but if there is, then let him decide.

He gave up his rights!

As soon as he pulled the trigger, he gave up his rights to be treated like a human being. I still think he did a lot of good but that doesn't get away from the fact that once you kill someone, you have the ability to kill again and your morality is out the window.

Do you believe in justice? What would be the just penalty for aggravated murder or murder with cruelty such as rape of a young child?Justice demands that, because the innocent suffered so much and whose life is worth infinitely much, that the perpetrator should be executed. He lost his right to life and his dignity when he chose to do the things he did. He chose to lose his human dignity. He is getting justice and he knows himself he deserves this penalty in his own heart of hearts and that this is the only way he could expiate for his crime. Even Jesus condemns us to hell for eternity for mortal sins of less viciousness after death. Is he lacking in mercy? No way- he is all loving. Mercy has its limits and I would like as much mercy provided to these criminals but some crimes cry out for such justice and it would be just wrong to not have any other way..

Equal justice

There exists a pro and con regarding capital punishment. My argument against the death penalty is simple: eye witnesses can be unreliable, confession is not totally reliable, our law enforcement officers are not relible, the DA is unreliable. They are unrealiable because they are involved in the case to convict someone. Once arrested, a person is "guilty" in the minds of the public. I am guilty of this. In many cases, law enforcement officers (LEO) get a "gut feeling" and from that they make an arrest. Once arrested...oops, already said that. The LEO can lie when they question the suspect. A lie from the suspect is strong evidence of guilt. Very few members of our society have personal experience with our legal system; they have never been arrested. They find a suspect guilty at trial because "the suspect has to be guilty because he has been arrested". Believe me, this line of thinking is naive.

tookie williams

Maybe the reason I do not believe in death penalty was I was raised as Catholic. He was incarcerated for over twenty years for the crime he committed. What is rehabilitation for? He was reformed. Death penalty does not deter crime at all, but what can? So my answer I believe is "NO", he should just be in prison and continue his work of writing for the sake of other lost souls.

We do not have the right to take ANYBODYS life away! Yes, he did bad things and killed people. BUT he did change for the better-he was a Nobel peace prize nominee! Nobody deserves to die-not even a murderer.
—Guest Guest

Yes

Yes he should have been executed. The lives of his victims are no less important than his. He was the only one left with a choice. The shame of it is he took too long and caused too much damage before he finally choose to change. You danced the dance, now pay the piper.

For certainly

Does anyone take consideration for the families of the four victims slain? I'm almost for certain they (the families) don't care if "Tookie" transformed into a Saint; they would rather see him dead. Live by the sword, you die by the sword. It's cases like this where a more prompt time to lethal injection would eliminate such type questions.

The soldiers who fight for us

I am shocked by the amount of people that are comparing this man's crimes to our U.S. soldiers. How dare you? What this man did is in no way similar to what the soldiers do. Stanley killed them for no reason other than maybe selfishess and hate. He was protecting himself or anyone else for that matter. His was a cold-blooded murder! Now how can you relate that to our soldiers who put their life on the line for YOUR skin. They fight for what America is: a free nation! If can not thank these men and women, then why don't you go out and protect this country. From comparing our soldiers to this man, you are spitting on all that they have done and will continue to do to make it safe for me and you. We as Americans can rest safely because we have soldiers fighting for us who have the guts to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of others. Sure that may require some killing, but that is what is required If you dont want freedom then fine, but dont ridicule the men and women who fight for you.
