Why should partial birth abortion be banned in the U.S., or alternatively, continue to be legal and permitted? Share Your Thoughts
Reality check
- Abortion was legalized because it was killing poor women, as middle-class and rich women left the country for abortions. You make it illegal and it's back to back street abortionist and more death of the poor. It's a pointless argument and should be kept legal

It should be legal!
- What business does the government have dictating what medical procedures should and should not be allowed? D&X is one of the safest abortion procedures because the fetus is removed in one piece. AND, most D&X are performed before the point of fetal viability. The skull is crushed so it can fit through the cervix easier. If its skull wasn't crushed, it would die outside the womb anyway. That's IF it isn't injected with a feticidal agent beforehand. I don't care if the procedure disgusts you; these doctors have been through 8+ years of schooling and taken their Hippocratic oath; let's leave the decision between doctors and their patients.

Life vs. Unlife
- I want to address the farcical definition that life begins at breath. Observe. Consider if a pregnant woman is walking down the sidewalk and a drunk driver leaves the road and his car strikes her, or a violent criminal beats and robs her. For argument, let's say that as a result of the trauma, her unborn baby dies. If life begins at breath, then there are no additional charges accruing from the loss of the life of the fetus. In fact, there will always be additional charges, usually manslaughter. Therefore, the law clearly recognizes that the unborn baby has an independent life of its own. can understand abortion in cases of rape, incest, or fetal genetic invalidity. I'm unhappy that the world is so imperfect like that, but I can understand it.

Rights
- It is any and every woman's right to have an abortion. A woman should have the freedom to do whatever she wishes with her body. I am a victim of incest, and if I had gotten pregnant, regardless of my parents' beliefs, I would have had an abortion.

What sickness
- I can see how abortion are sound in the case of rape; I could not carry the child of a rapist. Also, in the case of the mother's health, the baby should be aborted to save the mother as the child has not lived yet. However cruel to say, an unborn baby does not hold as much importance as the living breathing woman. But in the case of accidental pregnancy, adoption or keeping the child should be the only choice. Also if the child is aborted for the reasons stated above, free counseling should be offered so to deter the development of Post Abortion Syndrome.

READ THIS!
- Many people have had abortions. Most have been minors. The reason for this is because when young people have an unplanned pregnancy, they freak out. An abortion is when a girl gets pregnant but doesn’t want the baby, or another reason of some sort, and they go to the doctor and the doctor kills the baby by using chemicals, surgically, dilatation and suction curettage procedure, dilatation and evacuation procedure, or a labor induction. Sad? Yes….., but true. I personally think abortion is wrong unless you are raped and you have legal documentation that it happened. It's a living baby inside if you with a beating heart. Think about that.

100% fatal diagnosis
- I don't believe abortion is right when the baby is perfectly healthy. But what about when the parents who so want their baby find out on the ultrasound that their baby has a 100% fatal diagnosis and no chance of survival outside of the womb.

Come on, pro-lifers
- Pro-lifers: if you want the non-religious, and/or pro-choice crowd to take you seriously, you have to stick to the facts. Just describe- neutrally- what various types of abortion entail. These procedures are violent and inhumane by nature and speak for themselves. If the same thing happened in the bassinet or incubator just after delivery it would be called murder, but if it happens inside mama then it's ok? How logical is that?

Just no!
- Regardless of the pro-life, pro-choice issue, if you are going to wait this long, why not just have the baby early & put it up for adoption? This just seems barbaric and creepy. In a case where the baby's heart stopped beating late in pregnancy, I do not think that could constitute a partial birth abortion as a great deal of the controversy is over the doctor stabbing a live baby in the head and removing its brain. Who even invented this?

Allow abortion
- First all all. An unborn child is a contradiction. You cannot have an unborn born offspring. Partial birth is justified, as is all abortion, by the fact the woman has the right to chose what she wants done with her own body. On a practical point why bring an unwanted (by the natural parents) child into the world? Even if the kid is "loved" by his adopted parents, he or she will always have self doubts and generally wonder who their real parents were. On the religion front-- Would not God (the Bible) have been explicit about abortion if God wanted you to worry about it? Life may begin at conception, but it does not become sacred until birth. God breathed the breath of life into Adam. Then he become a living soul. That says point blank that life becomes sacred after you start breathing air, like everyone else. If a caterpillar is killed does a butterfly die? NO.

Response to the rape comments.
- I understand that someone would not want to carry a baby that they had conceived during such rape, although why wouldn't that person get an abortion early on instead of waiting? Why punish the unborn child for the acts of the rapist? Or if that person went to the hospital afterward, why not get the morning after pill so such a pregnancy doesn't exist?

My reasons for pba to be banned
- I could not believe when I heard that people are actually doing this. It is very disturbing. I really do not understand why anyone would allow let alone do this act of murdering an innocent baby!

Abortion
- Why I think abortion should not be legal: Because it is not the babies fault that he or she was made. For abortion doctors to be killing an unborn child is murder. The law now is that you have to hear the babies heart beat and see sonograms of the baby before you abort it. It’s just not right. There are ways to protect your self from getting pregnant. If you didn’t do so and get pregnant, then really it's your fault. It would be better to put the baby up for adoption rather killing an unborn child. Why not let the young child live a happy life? God created this special human being. A baby, as I see it, is a blessing. God would never, ever give you more weight to bear than you could carry. Some woman can't have kids. For them to see other mothers aborting their own kids is sad. Adoption is the best way to go if you are not able or do not want your baby.

All abortion should be legal
- I strongly believe that all abortion should be legal. I have written numerous papers on abortion, and now I am writing my senior exit paper on late term abortion. As I was reading the comments, all I could think of was how religious, and emotionally attached everyone against abortion sounds. If you actually ever want someone to take you seriously, you need to put your emotions and beliefs aside and find the facts. The real medical facts. How about you pro-lifers go get raped, and try to look at yourself knowing that the baby of that man is in you. And guys, how would you feel about your wives having the child of the man who raped her? You would hate it, and hate the child. Or if your wife/fiance/girlfriend were to die if she gave birth? Would you like to lose her or the child, or both?
