Des Moines Register debate on Dec 13, 2007 - Bill Richardson was positive, honest, self-effacing, compassionate, competent, intelligent, and highly experienced with strong diplomatic skills, but seen by detractors as frumpy and rumpled, not well-spoken, and lacking strong authority.
CNN Debate in Las Vegas, November 15, 2007, moderated by Wolf Blitzer - Bill Richardson clearly has the best speech writers to capture liberal hearts. I nearly swooned when he found a way to wedge in, "All I want is to give peace a chance." I half-expected John Lennon's "Imagine" to swell in the background.
NBC News/Philadelphia Debate, October 30, 2007, moderated by Brian Williams, Tim Russert - Despite the usual shilling of his resume and experience, Bill Richardson seemed to be trying-out to be Hillary's running mate or secretary of state.
ABC News/Iowa Debate, August 19, 2007, moderated by George Stephanopoulos - Bill Richardson delivered a Master Lesson in political debating, as he effectively and efficiently delivered his message in the mere 8 minutes he was allotted.
CNN-YouTube Debate, July 23, 2007, moderated by CNN's Anderson Cooper - Gov. Bill Richardson demonstrated again that while he has all the goods (extensive experience, great ideas, intelligent plans), but he lacked national-stage charisma.
PBS-Howard University debate, June 28, 2007, moderated by Tavis Smiley - The most experienced and feted leader in the Democratic race, Richardson has tried-and-true solutions to our nation's problems, and the skills to solve them. His answers for the first half of the debate were articulate, pragmatic and heartfelt. But the governor appeared worn-out by the intensity of the event, and he lost focus.
California Democratic Convention, April 28-29, 2007 - Richardson proved that his experience on both foreign and domestic issues far exceeds that of all other 2008 Democratic candidates. I'd never before grasped Richardson's supposed lack of crowd appeal until this convention: Richardson's personal appeal is regional. He's a man of the American Southwest.
DNC Winter Kick-Off Meeting, February 1-3, 2007 - If forced to cast my vote today February 2007, I would cast it for Bill Richardson. His rapport with the Democratic faithful was warm and instant and he effused collegial goodwill toward his competitors. Richardson reminded me why Americans tend to elect governors to the presidency.
