Take a Closer Look at Bill Richardson for President in 2008

Monday May 21, 2007
Standing in the same Los Angeles hotel ballroom where his political role model, President Kennedy, accepted the Democratic presidential nomination, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico today formally announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 2008 presidential race.

Said Richardson this morning:

"The United States faces huge challenges, but also huge opportunities. I am running for President because these times call for a leader with a proven track record, and a demonstrated ability to bring people together to tackle our problems at home and abroad.

"I am that person, not because I say so, but because of what I have done, and what I can do for the American people. The challenge of the campaign I am launching today is to get that message heard...

"There are a lot of candidates in this race with good ideas. But coming up with a good idea is only half the job.

The other half is bringing people together to get it done. I'm proud of my record of getting things done. And I'll put that record up against anyone's."

I've made no secret of the fact that I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Bill Richardson for the 2008 race for the White House, mainly because he has vastly more experience and more important successes than the other Democrats running for the nomination.

Gov. Richardson, a 7-term Congressman (1983-97), also served both as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and as U.S. Energy Secretary under President Bill Clinton. He's been an effective 2-term governor in New Mexico. And his extraordinary bipartisan record as a diplomat earned him nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2001.

Vastly More Experience
Here's what Bill Richardson doesn't have: the charisma (or bestseller writing talent) of Barack Obama, the moneyed connections of Bill and Hillary Clinton, or the spellbinding communication skills of John Edwards.

Instead, Richardson has hands-on experience, proven skills and a long track record of successes.

I'm not saying that Senators Obama, Clinton or Edwards wouldn't make outstanding Democratic nominees. The Democratic Party is blessed with a wealth of strong candidates for the 2008 presidential race. I could proudly vote for any of these 4 Democrats to be President of the United States.

I'm merely urging you to take a close look at Gov. Bill Richardson's candidacy for the highest office in our country. He's a worthy candidate and the best qualified Democrat in the race to be elected president in 2008.
