Sen Barack Obama: Tired of Schools Where Rats Outnumber Computers

Wednesday October 11, 2006
I receive campaign emails daily from Democratic leaders and candidates, especially during election season. Senator Barack Obama doesn't send many such emails, and when he does, they're usually exquisitely diplomatic.

I received one from him yesterday, though, that touched me with its eloquent frankness. Thought you might enjoy reading, and being inspired, by an excerpt from it:

"I am tired of this White House using the politics of fear and ramping up the war on terror somehow for three months between September and November of every even-numbered year.

Here at home, I am tired of our kids going to schools where the rats outnumber the computers.

I am tired of people in the Gulf Coast living out of their cars and begging FEMA for trailers.

I am tired of being told that all we can do in this country is hope that the good fortune of the few trickles down to everyone else in America.

I know you are tired of it all too, but it doesn't have to be this way.

If we unite together, we can do something extraordinary. It starts with taking back the Senate. Only then can we hold this administration accountable and get America back on track.

If you want to take action right now for change, the single best thing you can do is to make a contribution to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. They know precisely where to send your money to make sure it will do the most good...

To capitalize on our momentum and guarantee victory on Election Day, the DSCC needs to raise $2.6 million dollars in just the next ten days. This is an all-hands-on-deck situation.

In fact, this goal is so essential to victory that Senate Democrats have united together to match every contribution we get before October 20 dollar-for-dollar, effectively doubling your gift.

Our future depends on what we're willing to do over the next few weeks.

Will we continue the march of progress to build a freer, kinder, more tolerant, and more just society? Will we throw open the doors of opportunity for each and every citizen of this great country?

... We are on the brink of taking back the Senate and making history. We owe our success thus far to you, but now we need your support just a little bit longer.

In the final few weeks before Election Day, it's the DSCC's job to defend our candidates from every dirty trick to tell voters just what our party stands for, but they can't do it without your help.

Please join with us. Do whatever you can to be a part of this historic victory...

Sincerely,
Barack Obama"

I just made a contribution. Won't you please join me?
