New York Times Urges Defeat of Sen Joe Lieberman
The Times cites not just Lieberman's staunch support of the Bush Administration's misguided agenda and strategy in Iraq, but his praise and defense of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on scandalous matters as Abu Ghraib and secret US prisons.
The Times brilliantly concludes, "If Mr. Lieberman had once stood up and taken the lead in saying that there were some places a president had no right to take his country even during a time of war, neither he nor this page would be where we are today. But by suggesting that there is no principled space for that kind of opposition, he has forfeited his role as a conscience of his party, and has forfeited our support.
... this primary is not about Mr. Lieberman’s legislative record. Instead it has become a referendum on his warped version of bipartisanship, in which the never-ending war on terror becomes an excuse for silence and inaction."
AMEN! This is a significant endorsement of Lieberman's opponent, and an equally significant statement about the influence of the Iraq War on November 2006 elections.

GO Ned!
It’s nice to see SOME kind of referendum on the war, and I think the people of Connecticut want to show their feelings on it. Joe will be one of the first signals, I hope, to the vacillating and gutless Democrats that even if they lack conviction, the People do not. It is time to come to our senses, and stop the purposeless violence and doublespeak that has come to characterize this administration…and all her lackeys. (HI JOE!)
