Obama Victory Gives New Hope to Americans of Color
The election of Barack Obama to be President of the United States does not signify the end of American racism... but it nonetheless provides a profound new sense of hope for all U.S. citizens who are neither white nor wealthy.
I am not a person of color, but my two toddler grandchildren are, as their lovely mother is a Peruvian native.
Neighbors on my street, in our city and county, across California and across our great country are persons of all colors: black, brown, yellow, white and all shades in between.
Obama's election means that 232 years after our country's founding, the United States progressed on its journey to become "a more perfect union" in which all men and women "are created equal."
Today, with the presidential election of an African-American man born to a barely middle-class teenage mother, my young grandchildren and everyone's children and grandchildren know that this country belongs to them as much as it belongs to the powerful, the wealthy, and the well-connected.
Today, my young grandchildren and everyone's children and grandchildren have new hope that, with hard work, persistence and a vision, they, too, really can be President of the United States.
God bless the American ideals of freedom, liberty and opportunity for all.
God bless America!

Congratulations to Barack Obama for winning the presidency. Heck, we got *my* vote, and that’s something I thought would NEVER happen. I think it’s great to see such a positive impact his election has had on our already. But remember, after he gets sworn in, it’s time to get to work.
I wish him luck.
Well put, Deborah. Here’s a piece I wrote last night: http://markdaniels.blogspot.com/2008/11/incredible-moment-for-america-whatever.html
You nObama supporters are delusional and uninformed. When you do finally wake-up and get a clue, it will be too late… it’s already too late now. My only solace is knowing elections will be held again in 2-years and with that, hopefully, you liberal Dems will be heaved-hoed out of office, thereby minimizing nObama’s raping of American ideals/values/principles/morals/essences. He has lied his way into office and you idiots were willing to turn a blind eye away from his unethical conduct. I hope you are happy. Although I will be forced to suffer along with you idiots, I will at least know it wasn’t my vote who put nObama in office. BTW, I hope other McCain supporters will join me in boycotting anything/everything that stands for nObama, starting with boycotting ANY/ALL charities, especially for minority recipients. They can get their financial support from nObama, but they will have to take a number since ACORN will be busy filling their coffers with our tax payer money, paying for abortions, not providing funding for missile defense or our military, etc. You are all freakin’ nuts!!!
Why not nObama has never said what Obama himself has done unfavorably! This is very typical of the naysayers. What #3 meant to say is that he/she doesn’t approve of leaders that don’t look like Joe SixPack. Well, naysayer, you have two choices: get with the program, or get over it!
I’m with you, #3, All of his smooth-talking scares me, but you always got a straight answer out of John McCain. He may not be “the one” or a savior, but he is a true HERO. And for #4, we’ll get over it, and will be busy planning for 2010 and 2012.
Wow, #3 and #5…first off, voting for the President does NOT happen every 2 years. Perhaps if you believed in school funding, you would have learned that little tidbit in 2nd grade. Also…banning all charities? You have a problem with the Ronald McDonald House and all breast cancer initiatives?
Wow, I’m even more glad that people like you are not in charge of our country. Thanks for proving the point.
I have experienced a few notable moments in history. The bombing of Pearl Harbour, The korean war, The Vietnam war and The twin towers disaster. I was around when coloreds couldn’t drink out of the same fountains as whites, or eat in the same restaurants, or go to the same schools or even walk on the same side of the street. I watched as the whites turned the dogs and fire hoses loose on blacks and bombed the churches killing little black children.I remember Emmet Till, and the freedom marchers that were killed trying to bring justice to this evil nation. I was sitting at a desk next to a white woman when John Kennedy was murdered, and cried when the news of Martin Luthor Kings death came over the radio. When Bobby Kennedy was killed I cried for the family. What more can the white man do to this country. Sarah Palin showed just what the white women from the other side of the tracks can do. She cost McCain the election with her trailer park talk and attitude. That’s what he meant when he said he made a mistake. She should be impeached. Who is she going to give her wardrobe to. I can just see a welfare mother going to the store with food stamps in a $500 dollar dress. . I hope Obama chooses to work with McCain to educate the country on what it’s like when black and white work together. Let all the Sarah’s and their husbands stay at home and take care of their families and leave running the country to people with some kind of integrity .
Fashion Kitty (#6), your response proved my point of you nObama supporters being uninformed. Did I say the next Presidential election is in 2-years? NO RETARD, I did NOT. However, here’s a news flash for you. There will be another election held in 2-years for the House race in particular and other races. I hope you’ve got your closet stocked with enough fashion, because after nObama gets through with all of us, your fashion dollars will be “spread around” to those who don’t pay taxes, along with the rest of our wealth.
I hope all you Obama ding dong’s are ready for bad education for our kids, an almost NO military to speak of, which you better be preparing for something to happen on OUR soil. In stead of keeping the war/battle away from America. And last but not least, he has NO experience in running anything to do with the government. You might say this might just be the end of a strong and world leading country! God help us!
Obama’s peacefull approach is the only way Amerca can survive. If you guys had kept up that bush-style crap a few more years, I really can’t see what would stop EVERYONE in the world turning against you. Most of it already is. America has been the shortest empire so far, people, not even a blip in the history books, and China could wipe the floor with you anytime it wanted too. If Obama gets shot and it goes back to how it was, they probably will. Their army is more than ten times the size of yours in infantry, and they have just as many, if not more, nukes in the back yard. Why do you pro-war pro-totalitarianism people think America is sooooo good? It loses every war it fights in (Except the civil war, and it doens’t count when you’re fighting yourself) and it’s infantry, the backbone of any military force, are widley recognized to be the worst trained meat puppets in the world. Are you trying to get stamped out? Pull your head in and play nice for a few years, yeah?
America aren’t just the nicest people ya whata meet?Stop being so hateful and pray for our country and new president. What your mad we got a decent person in office that is gonna do right by all of us.Thank God for Obama and his family!I am glad he knows what it is like to stuggle, and have dreams and go for them, thats why he is were he is at!
The real reason you naysayers are so upset is that you are, well, confused….
See, to a particular demographic in your country, having an intelligent and articulate leader smacks of elitism. You are not accustomed to someone who is NOT an idealogue. You preferred the scattered approach of McCain in the face of the financial crisis, to someone who could monitor the situation with a cool head and steady hand.
Sarah Palin is lucky. She is young enough to run for president in a few years, and stupid enough to appeal to America’s hillbilly sector.

Reading the newspaper this morning I was astounded and heartened by the excitement around the world because of Obama. Women in Iran saying that they had new respect for American democracy. Germans saying that the ‘ugly americans’ are gone and that they can now look at us as enlightened. The French saying that this has made them think of race relations in their own country. School children in Indonesia cheering. All of this in the Wall Street Journal. It is truly amazing. He is drawing the world together and putting America back in the place of intelligence, dynamism, and prestige.

NUMBER 10 IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT GET OUT OF THE USA
To Fashion Kitty – No, there won’t be a presidential election in 2 years, but there will be a number of congressional seats available. So if Obama and his liberal oriented Congress spread the wealth too much (they can spread your wealth) Conservatives and Republicans will be voted right back in. So yes, I do know the years that can bring a change. Obviously No. 3 and I are more politically informed than you
to the obama naysayers, please read your papers or the internet. 63 percent of white america voted obama in office. 23 percent of minorities did not make a big difference. If you want be mad at anyone, be mad at your own race.
Ah well, if hearing from the Aussies and Canucks isn’t enough for all of us to realize this was a bad decision. News Flash, we don’t care what you think and know you are jelous. As for losing every war, I’m pretty sure we won both World War I and II. In fact if not for American intervention you just might be speaking Japanese in the land down under.
Another post spoke of school funding. Ha! Trying getting teachers out of unions and back to worrying about students. We have dumbed down American schools long enough. Todays College Grad couldn’t have passed 5th grade 50 years ago…..before the liberal rebellion. God have mercy on our souls.
Here are the REAL reasons nObama won:
1. He was able to outspend McCain, in part, because he lied that he would take government financing and then decided to take public/private donations. HE LIED!
2. The LIBERAL media didn’t allow any negative truths about nObama to be aired. Lying by omission.
3. He and his LIBERAL cohorts created ACORN, whereby the U.S. Government funds 40% of their budget. ACORN is up to its eyeballs with fraud and more lies/deception!
4. One of the funniest lies that you supporters believed were his promises to be “an agent of change” and “no more politics as usual”… then yesterday he starts announcing/identifying people to his cabinet, most of which are people who worked in the Clinton administration. How is that any different than from what he premised his entire campaign on? It sure sounds like more of the same to me. This is another lie he sold.
5. He lied about his friendships with Rev. Wright, Ayers, LPO members, etc.
Please note the common theme and the reasons we anti-nObama voters feel the way we do… nObama is NOT trustworthy or forthright. Please read his books and find for yourselves his denouncement of his white heritage and how he will fight with his Muslim brothers. I guarantee the only reason he went back to see his dying grandmother is because he wanted to shove an absentee ballot in her face to sign. That’s what I think of nObama!
You nObama supporters want to claim we McCain supporters have no class? You didn’t see us rioting and burning buildings in our neighborhoods, etc., which is what you nObama supporters would have done if McCain had won, just like you did during the Katrina crisis in New Orleans.
I pray you nObama supporters get everything you deserve for being so ignorant. Unfortunately, we will ALL end up suffering the consequences because of you who are uninformed.
Why NOT NOBama,
Your boorish, desperate, and unenlightened response proves my points beautifully. I am circulating it on my blog.
Take heart, Why NOT NOBama! Riff-raff Palin will be back in a few years, and will count on YOUR kind to vote her into office. (Intellectually-challenged people tend to support one another.)

BTW, just so you know, Canada is a country, not a continent.
Nice article and comments.
