Hillary's Campaign Offers Savvy Musical Break from the News

Thursday May 17, 2007
Sometimes, the headlines are just so overwhelming, that we all need to take a relaxing timeout. To stop and smell the roses. To take a soothing musical break.

Today is one of those days. Here are a few of today's bleak, downbeat headlines:

Jerusalem Post: Bush May Strike Iran Near End of Term

New York Times: Senate Rejects Iraq Troop Withdrawal

International Herald Tribune: Gonzales pressed ailing Ashcroft on domestic spying plan

Today's musical breath-of-fresh-air comes from a highly unexpected source: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Seems her reelection team is picking a campaign song, and they want your advice.

(You may laugh at such triviality, but theme songs are big stuff in campaign camps. The tunes used by the 2008 candidates at the California Democratic convention were simply awful... Judge for yourself at the videos of their entrances.)

The Hillary for President site lists LINKS for your easy listening to nine tunes by a wide range of artists, from U2, Jesus Jones and Shania Twain to the Temptations, Smash Mouth, the Staple Singers and the inevitable Dixie Chicks.

I must admit... the Hillary for President campaign strategy seems savvier and more confident each week, while the others are starting to sound a tad out-of-touch. This is one smart outreach idea.

Have fun selecting a song for Hillary's 2008 campaign! And let me know what you chose...

(I picked... you guessed it... "Ready to Run" by the Dixie Chicks.)

I voted for Smash Mouth, and then went back and voted for the Dixie Chicks. I think there are still enough people out there who aren’t sure about Hillary, but hate the Dixie Chicks, so I’m not sure how smart a move that would be. Although it is kind of perfect.

considering U2 is one of my favorite bands ever and there were two U2 songs (both of which i love), i of course voted for one and then went back and voted for the other. hilary sure is making this campaign fun :D

kim may be right about the Dixie Chicks, but I voted for their song. Check Richardson’s background. I read somewhere that sexual harassment charges may come to light if he is nominated.

Thanks, Kim, Andrea and Betty!

The Hillary for President site had an overwhelming response to this request… more than 100,000 people!

Betty, if Gov. Richardson has some messiness in his personal background, how would that make him different than Bill and Hillary Clinton?

In 2008, after all we’ve been through and learned, I expect more charity from Democrats than to condemn a strong leader for leading an imperfect life.
