Gov. Bill Richardson: A Plan to Prevent a Nuclear 9-11

Monday April 2, 2007
A reader recently wrote to me that I'm a bit too "Obama-y" for her taste. She leans more toward Hillary Clinton or John Edwards for the Democratic 2008 nomination for the presidency.

It's true. At this time, I am partial to Barack Obama in 2008 over the other Democratic candidates... but my mind is open, and I'm listening to all the candidates. And I continue to bring you news and views about all the major candidates.

The first primaries are 9 months away, and anything can happen between now and then to radically change the political landscape. Absolutely anything.

One event that could change everything would be an attack, nuclear or otherwise, on the U.S. All Americans might change their criteria for the ideal 2008 presidential candidate, giving higher priority to a proven record of successful diplomacy and extensive international experience.

Many Democrats contend that the ideal candidate would then be Sen. Hillary Clinton, with her tough woman-warrior stances on the Iraq War and Middle East policies, and her membership on the Senate Committee on Armed Services.

I strongly disagree. Sen. Clinton's angry, hair-trigger temper could be an impediment to diplomacy, and her refusal to stand against the Iraq War represents an unacceptable level of Bushian-style stubbornness.

And Sen. Clinton's international experience, independent of her husband, is far lighter that her campaign seeks to portray.

Bill Richardson, Most Experienced & Prepared ?

To my mind, under such circumstances, the ideal 2008 presidential candidate could be Gov. Bill Richardson, 7-term Congressman and former UN Ambassador, who is also an extraordinarily gifted diplomat, nominated in 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2001 for the Nobel Peace Prize.

No doubt about it... Bill Richardson is light-years more experienced and knowledgeable than ALL other 2008 presidential candidates, both Republican and Democratic, in international relations and diplomatic matters.

On March 28, 2007, he delivered a brilliant speech entitled Comprehensive Strategy to Prevent Nuclear 9/11, to the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Everyone should invest the time to read and ponder this speech, in which Richardson sets forth an intelligent 4-point plan to greatly reduce the risk of a nuclear Sept 11.

After all, we can't deny or hide from the 21st century reality of Richardson's words:

"... nothing will stop suicidal Jihadists from using a nuclear bomb if they get their hands on one.

If Al Qaeda obtained nuclear weapons, they could smuggle them into American cities - and they would not hesitate to use them with the same ruthlessness that allowed them to fly airplanes filled with people into buildings filled with people."

So, IF we get hit AGAIN, the left then wants to then kick DIPLOMACY into a higher gear, right? And that Hillarys woman-warrior position would be an impediment towards “understanding” why people want to kill us?

What exactly should I say to the guy who wants to slit my throat? Knowing that I don’t want to offend him.

And since libs are so concerned about tying our own hands by preventing effective detention and interrogation of terrorists on the one hand and the exercise of our sovereignty [borders, deportation] on the other, the blood will be on THEIR hands.
Like the enemy tells us.. the nuclear 911 is on its way.
THANK YOU, liberals for making sure many us won’t get too old.
Thank you SOO much.
