Just Do It: Protest the War, Lobby Congress, Run for Office, Express Your Views!
Across the U.S., people feel frustrated and helpless... stressed out and seething in their inability to have a say.
But the truth is, there IS something each of can do to make a difference. In fact, there are hundreds of ways and means for everyday Americans to actively participate in correcting the frightening course of our country.
Here's what I'm Doing
Here's what I'm doing to make a difference: this weekend, I'm among about 3,000 Californians running for election to secure one of 960 2-year terms as part of the California Democratic State Central Committee and as a delegate to the California Democratic Party Conventions in 2007 and 2008.
Of course, not everyone has the time or energy to be part of their state Democratic caucus or delegation, although I encourage all my readers to take that big leap, as I have. It promises to be a lively 2 years in state-level grassroots liberal politics., including visits from 2008 presidential candidates.
But there's much that anyone can do to make a genuine difference.
Here's What You Can do
First and foremost, write/call/email/visit your elected representatives. Tell them your stances, and ask them to vote to your views! They represent and work for YOU... give them direction.
Then get out of your comfort zone and JOIN in the hundreds of local hands-on activites sponsored by a myriad of Democratic organizations.
I've listed some suggestions at Activist Calendar for Winter 2007. Feel free to email me with other activist events.
If you feel angered over the Iraq War... if you feel frustrated at our country's leadership... if you need to find an avenue to express your views... as Nike says, JUST DO IT!
