Wear Blue Today to Celebrate the Comeback of the Democratic Party!

Tuesday November 7, 2006
Two years ago, the Democratic Party was a disheartened shambles, shocked and broken over the reelection of George Bush and Dick Cheney to another four years in the White House.

Two years ago, Democrats held a paltry 44 of 100 seats in the US Senate, and remained the minority party in the House, with merely 201 of 435 House seats.

Two years ago, pundits proclaimed the death of the Democratic Party. The beginning of Republicans as the permanent party in power.

But the pundits were wrong, because the Bush-Cheney House of 2004 was built on a foundation of sand that's been washed away by the flood of their lies and failures.

And today, two years later, the Democratic House of 2006, which is built on the solid rock of American values... life, liberty and justice for all, applied in equal measure... rises again to lead our nation back to fiscal responsibility, international cooperation and moral accountability.

Wear blue today to celebrate!

Predicting the Congressional Elections
I'm not a pollster, and have no inside info to reliably forecast today's election results.

Analysts from both sides of the aisle unanimously agree, however, on one outcome: Democrats will gain seats, and Republicans will lose seats, in both the Senate and House of Representatives. The only open question is how many seats will move to the Democratic Party.

Last night on CNN, I heard two Republican analysts concede that Democrats will retake control of the House... so it must be fait accompli.

Democratic control of the House would be a massive blow to the Bush Administration agenda, since all legislation involving taxes and appropriations (expenditures) originate in the House.

Few of the "experts" are willing to predict whether Democrats or Republicans will control the Senate in the new, 110th Congress. Five to seven seats changing from red to blue is the most common prediction.

Last night, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that three months ago, Democrats never dreamed they had a chance to become the Senate majority party. Today, voter dissatisfaction with conservatives is so extreme that a half dozen incumbent Republican senators may lose their jobs.

Whether or not Democrats become the Senate majority party, Democratic control over judicial nominations and legislation will be greatly increased. And that, too, will be a significant setback to the Bush Administration agenda.

Rumors of the demise of the Democratic Party were pure silliness, born of arrogance and ignorance.

The American people will speak today, and they apparently want more Democrats and more Democratic control, and less Bush Republicanism. Thank God!

Wear blue today to celebrate the comeback of the Democratic Party!
