Know Your Democratic Candidates: Rep. Sherrod Brown Running for Senator from Ohio

Wednesday September 20, 2006
As a progressive Democrat and a Christian, what can I say except an ecstatic HOORAY about a Democratic leader who:

Utters proudly, ""Democrats are the party of values... the Democrats are the party of social justice.. the Democrats are the party of morality in politics."

Voted against the Iraq War in 2002, and continues to demand from the Bush Administration accountability and a US withdrawal plan from Iraq; and who...

As the ranking Democrat on the House Health subcommittee, has ferociously led the fight against Big Pharma and high drug prescirption costs, to the point where he has publicly sponsored bus trips to Canada for seniors to buy drugs at up to 80% less than US prices.

And that's just the beginning of the good news about progressive Rep. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who, after 7 terms in the House, is running against Ohio's incumbent Republican US Senator Mike DeWine, social conservative and avid Bush supporter.

And the best news is that polls consistently show Brown, an adept campaigner, leading the beleaguered DeWine by up to 6 percentage points. Reports are that Karl Rove and George Bush have targeted Ohio as one of three "must win" states for Republicans in the Senate, and are funneling millions to defeat Sherrod Brown.

To learn much more about the Democrat who may be the new senator from Ohio, read my Inside Profile of Rep. Sherrod Brown, 2006 Ohio Democratic Candidate for US Senate.
