Robert Novak: House Republicans Believe Democrats May Take Control in November

Tuesday August 29, 2006
The August 27, 2006 political-chatter column by conservative pundit and acerbic Bush Administration insider Robert Novak held wonderful news for Democrats: Republicans genuinely believe they could lose control of the House of Representatives this November.

Wrote Novak:

"A political indicator of hard times ahead for Republicans is frantic activity during the current congressional recess by GOP staffers contemplating life under a Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.

Several Republican aides, including many working for House members from safe seats, are seeking employment elsewhere. Most of them have never worked under Democratic control and dread the prospect of minority status on Capitol Hill.

Other aides, working on House committee staffs, would lose those jobs in a Democratic House and want to transfer now to work for safe Republican members."

Before we prematurely celebrate or even contemplate Congressional electoral victory three months from now, remember that old American saying: Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

And also remember: Robert Novak has been wrong many times.

Now is the time to work for Democratic candidates for the House and Senate. Here are links so YOU can be part of the team to elect Democrats to Congress in November 2006:

Thanks for the links to the Committee pages. It’s kind of hard to find out about the Indiana races, it seems. Lugar is running unchallenged and I’m in Mike Pence’s district, so he might as well be unchallenged … I’ve not seen a single ad for the Democrat running against him.

Happy to provide links so people can get better connected to state and local info on candidates and races, and to get hopefully get involved in supporting Democratic candidates.

Both Lugar and Pence are nationally known, and have positive buzz, so they likely are unchallenged or under-challenged in their races.

But Dems have to start somewhere! I just wrote a post about protests against the Bush Administration in, of all places, Salt Lake City! That would’ve been previously unimaginable.

Andrew, thanks for your comments!
