Last Peter Jennings ABC Special, AIDS in Black America, to Air Next Week
Peter Jennings was a dedicated newsman, a 41-year employee of ABC News and lead ABC evening news anchor for 22 years. He was widely regarded as a leading journalist of his time, and was known for his extensive experience in the Middle East. Jennings garnered numerous accolades, including 16 Emmy Awards.
During the week of September 11, 2001, Jennings logged more than 60 on-air hours. TV Guide dubbed him the "center of gravity" during that week.
Per ABC, "Out of Control: AIDS in Black America" is the first national network television news documentary on the AIDS epidemic among African Americans--- an epidemic that is spreading fast, but that has attracted little consistent attention from leaders in public health, politics, or religion."

I posted Julian Bonds editorial on the subject form the Toronto conference. Who will we turn to for civil rights guidance when the greats like Julian are gone? When I was a younger mental health clinician intern in the early ’90s I was asigend to an HIV/AIDs program. I couldn’t stay with that work because we had no effective treatments then and the situation seemed so hopeless. My hat is tipped to the peolple who could courageously work with that population. The current situation is exactly what was predicted then.
