New Gallup Poll: Two-Thirds Want US to Withdraw from Iraq

Now that Iraq has obviously spiraled into lawless and bloody civil war and mob violence, it comes as no surprise that the Gallup poll released late last week reports that two in three Americans "urge a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, with 31% wanting this to start immediately."

Per Editor & Publisher on July 7, 2006, "Gallup's director, Frank Newport, sums up the results today: 'Taken together, it is perhaps fair to say that a significant majority of Americans would like the United States to either withdraw troops from Iraq or make specific plans to do so...' "

As of July 6, 2006, 2,540 US troops have been killed in Iraq, and 18,746 US troops have been seriously, often permanently, wounded.

And yet, consistent with the President's stubborn vow to "stay the course" in Iraq, 126,900 American troops remain in Iraq, as well as 84,105 US contractors and "US Army combat Service Support Personnel."
