The Smell and Sound of Conservative Fear and Jealousy
New York Times' conservative columnist David Brooks wrote a weirdly whiny op-ed today, bemoaning the power of the liberal blogosphere and the internet's busiest blog, liberal community DailyKos.
(Referring to Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, Brooks pouted "In just a few short years he has achieved a level of self-importance it took those in the pre-blog political class decades to acquire.")
And a few days ago, Washington Post conservative pollster Richard Morin reported that two "political scientists, " Jody Baumgartner and Jonathan S. Morris of East Carolina University, conducted tests that demonstrated that "young people who watch (Jon) Stewart's faux news program, 'The Daily Show,' develop cynical views about politics and politicians."
(Morin is the same guy who told leading liberal blog MyDD that the mere question of polling public support for the impeachment of George W. Bush "makes me mad..." Be sure to read this priceless interview at MyDD.)
To quote top blogger Jeff Jarvis at BuzzMachine, "Oh, come on. Cynicism about politics is not Stewart’s fault. It’s politics’ fault. Let’s get our cause and effect straight, Profs."
And, of course, wacky Ann Coulter makes a bundle hawking books that reek of pathological paranoia about anything not in total agreement with her far-right agenda. (Coulter has worked the word "liberal" into the nutty fear-mongering titles of her last three books.)
As the polls for George Bush tank to record-setting presidential lows, and as the polls demonstrate over and over again the great likelihood of both the House and Senate reverting to Democratic control in the November 2006 elections... the smell and sound of conservative fear and jealousy grows to an offensive odor and deafening din.
It's hilarious. And oh-so overdue.
Stand by for the inevitable Swift Boating by a handful of anxiety-addled ultra-conservative extremist loonies...
