Hell Freezes Over: MoveOn.org & Christian Coalition Join to Fight Political Issue
Because, as anyone who lived through the November 2004 election knows, hell would have to freeze over before the proudly liberal MoveOn.org would join together with the conservative evangelical Christian Coalition to do anything but battle. And vice versa.
That two such polar-opposite organizations can reach across the vast partisan divide to form one united front is a testament to the extraordinary urgency of this issue: preserving the freedom of the internet.
In an email today, MoveOn.org wrote, "We never thought we'd see the day, but it's come: we're working together with the Christian Coalition. You read that right--the Christian Coalition has joined everyone from Google to MoveOn to the Gun Owners of America in the fight for Internet freedom. The momentum is on our side.
Internet companies like AT&T have been trying to win this fight by telling Republicans in Congress this is just a left-wing issue. But MoveOn and the Christian Coalition have designed a full-page New York Times ad to expose the truth: people across the spectrum are united behind Internet freedom! If we get that message out, we win."Kathy Gill, About.com's Guide to US Politics articulately explains the issue at Net Neutrality: The Fight for Internet Infrastructure
Per Kathy, the "bottom line" is this: "....what is at stake is the freedom to access whatever online information (content) strikes your fancy, using whatever device you wish. Rather than focusing on their responsibility to maximize network performance, telecos and cable companies want to control access to content, either by charging additional service fees or by prioritizing some content over other content." Or blocking content altogether.

Actually, hell is not freezing over so much as political interests are rapidly realigning in the United States: the corporatists and globalization capitalists on one side; and those who value freedom and liberty for the American people on the other side.
The Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld families are and always have been corporatists and globalization capitalists, which is not necessarily conservative. Under the Bush Administration, big corporations and the federal government have worked in unprecedented intimate alliance to draft legislation and form all the most significant federal policies of the Bush tenure, from energy to healthcare to the Iraq War, immigration, secret surveillance, and even the failed Dubai Ports Deal.
Many in the Republican Party are as disgusted with the Bush Administration as are Democrats, although for much different reasons. Americans from across the political specturm .... from the Christian Coalition to MoveOn.org ..... are sounding the emergency alarm to stop the takeover and ruining of America by Bush cronies and donors. In this case, the corporatists want to own and control the internet, and to exploit and ruin it simply for their own greedy goals.
