Iraq War Statistics as of April 2006: US Plans "Second Liberation of Baghdad"
If all goes to plan, US troop withdrawals could take place before the end of the year. In the absence of progress by then, the war may come to be seen by the American public as a lost cause. "
(So this staged "liberation" of Baghdad and subsequent US troop withdrawal would happen just before November 2006 Congressional elections? Hmmmmm.....Wonder if they'll hang another "Mission Accomplished" banner? )
And Newsweek reports extensively this week on the Revolt of the Retired Generals: "Rumsfeld demanded a swift, lean force that worked superbly to depose Saddam Hussein—but was woefully inadequate to take over the more onerous task of securing and rebuilding Iraq. Only now are the retired generals coming forth to complain of Rumsfeld's bullying and demanding his resignation."
To bring you up-to-speed on the current status of the War in Iraq, I updated Iraq War Statistics and Results as of April 12, 2006. I warn you...it's not a neat and pretty picture of solid progress: 2,363 US soldiers killed, another 17,549 seriously wounded, and more than $400,000,000,000 of US taxpayers' funds spent or approved to spend on US occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Here's one new Iraq War statistic that caught my attention: Iraqi Physicians Before 2003 Invasion: 34,000 ; Iraqi Physicians Who Have Left Iraq Since 2003 Invasion: 12,000; and Iraqi Physicians Murdered Since 2003 Invasion: 2,000.

Has Iraq ever been liberated?
Not to my knowledge. I use the phrase as a quote….and tongue-in-cheek.
