Defense Dep't Will Detonate Mushroom-Cloud Explosion Over Las Vegas in June 2006

Thursday March 30, 2006
Just in case you still held the delusion that the Bush Administration planned to withdraw from Iraq or was seeking peace for the world.....Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports today: "The U.S. military plans to detonate a 700 ton explosive charge in a test called 'Divine Strake' that will send a mushroom cloud over Las Vegas, a senior defense official said March 30."

The test is part of the ongoing Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld war agenda "to develop weapons capable of destroying deeply-buried bunkers housing nuclear, chemical or biological weapons," per AFP. Or to make a big, saber-rattling statement.

James Tegnelia, head of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency sounded eerily elated and jocular when he told AFP, "I don’t want to sound glib here but it is the first time in Nevada that you’ll see a mushroom cloud over Las Vegas since we stopped testing nuclear weapons.

We also have — are you ready for this — a 700-ton explosively formed charge that we’re going to be putting in a tunnel in Nevada. And that represents to U.S. the largest single explosive that we could imagine doing conventionally to solve that problem ."

These detonations are set for early June 2006 in Las Vegas. The Russians have been notified. Americans apparently have not.

Is it too late to say it one more time: Give Peace a Chance?
