Comedian Jon Stewart to Host Academy Awards

It was announced this morning that Jon Stewart of Comedy Central's The Daily Show will be the sole host of the 78th annual Academy Awards to be aired that evening. It will be his first stint hosting the highly-rated Oscar Awards program, which honors excellence in cinema achievement for the past year.

Stewart was back on The Daily Show last night after a two-week holiday hiatus. I missed his dead on-target humor that helps me chuckle at the hypocrisy and tragedy of all US politics, and especially at the off-the-charts brazenness of the Bush Administration. His take on the Jack Abramoff bribe scandal had me laughing out loud.

Jon Stewart has earned many Emmy Awards for excellence in television, as well as two prestigious George Foster Peabody international awards for excellence in radio and television broadcasting and cable television. Stewart received both Peabody awards for his insightful coverage of the Presidential elections in 2000 and 2004.

The timing of the Academy Awards is ideal for Stewart's trademark biting political observations to make a lasting impression on the voting public just months before the 2006 Congressional elections.

And besides....Jon Stewart will be hands-down hilarious. As always.
