Hundreds of Events Today Mark 3rd Anniversary of Downing Street Memos

Saturday July 23, 2005
We are blessed to live in a country where, thanks to our forefathers, we may voice our opinions and objections to government action. US approval of the War in Iraq is at an all-time low, and more and more frustrated citizens are speaking out against the escalating violence there, and the lack of any exit plan for US troops.

For example, five senior citizens in Arizona...all grandmothers....are due in a Tucson court on Monday to face charges of trespassing after attempting to enlist at an Army recruitment center. "We went in asking to be sent to Iraq so our kids and grandchildren can be sent home, but rather than listening to us, they called the police," said 74-year-old Betty Schroeder to CNN.

And then there's immense anger over the Downing Street Memos, which seem to document that President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair decided to wage war on Iraq as early as mid-2002...rather than in early 2003, as they told the world, the United Nations, the American and British people and the US Congress.

Saturday, July 23, 2005.....today......marks the third aniversary of that Downing Street meeting documented in the infamous memo.

From Progressive Democrats of America...."The Downing Street Minutes are finally beginning to get the media attention they deserve and, with your help and perseverance, the details of this administration's outrages are coming to light. The spotlight is upon us and we must continue to build awareness and momentum. We won't allow the press and the public to ignore this smoking gun!

PDA proudly invites you to take part in a Downing Street Minutes 3rd Anniversary Event!

On Saturday, July 23, over fifty U.S. cities are holding Downing Street Minutes events. Come be a part of history in the making! There will be Town Hall Meetings hosted by Members of Congress, including one in Detroit with Congressman John Conyers, Jr. More than 300 local events are planned!

In solidarity, peace activists will be gathering with us across the Atlantic, outside 10 Downing Street. This will be an historic day of citizen action – and PDA activists will be there."Look here to find a Downing Street Memo event/rally in your city.

<->All events today are co-sponsored by Progressive Democrats of America and AfterDowningStreet.org, a rapidly growing coalition of veterans' groups and established peace groups, founded on May 26, 2005, when the Downing Street Memos were leaked to the public.

And if you can't make one of the 300 rallies today, join us here at the US Liberals Forum message board, where we have a board dedicated to expressing our sentiments about every aspect of the War In Iraq.

Come join us and speak your mind! What a privilege to be able to freely shout out our opinions.....and to have a great place , like here, to do that.
