Republican Outreach to African-Americans? 15 Republican Senators Refuse to Repudiate Lynching

Wednesday June 15, 2005
The US Senate passed a resolution Monday to apologize for its past failures to pass anti-lynching laws. The unprecedented, overdue apology was aimed mainly at descendants of African-American slaves.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, though, refused repeated requests for a roll call vote that would put senators' votes on record on the anti-lynching issue. It was done Monday evening, after most people had gone home, and using a technical voice-vote procedure that did not require senators to be present. If no one expressly voted no, then it passed "unanimously."

Therefore, to signifiy their support of this resolution, 85 US Senators opted to co-sponsor this historical resoution. That's right....85 senators. Fifteen senators....all Republicans....opted to not sponsor this historic resolution apologizing for past US racial injustices and violence.

I want you to know the names of those 15 men and women who refused to stand tall against lynching African-Americans and others....

From DailyKos, which has extensive details on this stunning situation:

"STILL HAVEN'T COSPONSORED

Lamar Alexander (R-TN) - (202) 224-4944
Robert Bennett (R-UT) - (202) 224-5444
Thad Cochran (R-MS) - (202) 224-5054
John Cornyn (R-TX) - (202) 224-2934
Michael Crapo (R-ID) - (202) 224-6142
Michael Enzi (R-WY) - (202) 224-3424
Chuck Grassley (R-IA) - (202) 224-3744
Judd Gregg (R-NH) - (202) 224-3324
Orrin Hatch (R-UT) - (202) 224-5251
Kay Hutchison (R-TX) - (202) 224-5922
Jon Kyl (R-AZ) - (202) 224-4521
Trent Lott (R-MS) - (202) 224-6253
Richard Shelby (R-AL) - (202) 224-5744
John Sununu (R-NH) - (202) 224-2841
Craig Thomas (R-WY) - (202) 224-6441"

If one of these senators is from your state, call his or her office. This is simply shameful for any American, much less a United States Senator.

And they say that more African-Americans are finding a home in the Republican party. Why???

(1) Pablo Herrera says:

First what you should do is tell everyone how much the democratic party supported Lynching, Jim Crow and the like

Tell them how a case similar to Rosa Parks was fought in court by a young Rutherford B Hayes (republican)

Weren’t the first Black senators and Lt Governors and circuit judges republican

wasn’t it the democratic party who openly supported the KKK?

I know it to be yes and true, but from what I can see about liberals, they only see what they want and will slam anything contrary to what they want the American public to believe.

There is a political reason for them not sponsoring the find out what it is before you make simplistic snap judgements
