Bush Aims to End Life-Saving Programs for Kids & Families
Buried in the $788 million of Bush budget cuts to Health & Human Services is a progam he wants to entirely end: the Traumatic Brain Injury Program, which has benefited children and adults just like Terri Schiavo in 49 states since 1997.
Yes, it's true. And Tom DeLay agrees with Mr. Bush. You know...the Tom DeLay who proclaimed "It won't take a miracle to heal Terri Sciavo. It will only take the medical care and therapy that patients require." The same Tom DeLay who pushed Bush's cold-hearted budget, closing the Traumatic Brain Injury Program, for House approval last week. Same guy.
Given recent Republican testimonies of touching respect for life and patient care, I couldn't imagine what HHSD programs the Bush team found to cut back or terminate.
So I investigated.
Odd thing....turns out the Bush 2006 budget cuts to Health & Human Services are quite contradictory to their impassioned and oh-so-public pro-family, pro-life rhetoric.
Other HHSD programs on the Bush chopping block include emergency and trauma services for children; community services for children and families, including special services for disabled children; programs on heart disease, stroke, cancer, infectious diseases, diabetes and more; health services for those in rural and urban settings and much more.
What happens next? Will these life-affirming programs really be cut? Read more here.
And then join lively discussion about this in the US Liberals Forum.
